Integrated Regional Water Management Planning

Integrated Regional Water Management Planning Act

In 2002, the Integrated Regional Water Management Planning Act was established to encourage local entities to collaboratively establish regional water management groups to improve water quality and water supply reliability to meet the State of California’s overall water needs.

Coachella Valley Regional Water Management Group

In 2008, the Coachella Valley Regional Water Management Group (CVRWMG) was formed as a collaborative effort led by five water purveyors and one wastewater agency, (Mission Springs Water District, Coachella Valley Water District, Coachella Water Authority, Desert Water Agency, Indio Water Authority, and Valley Sanitary District), to develop and implement an Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Plan to address the water resources planning needs of the Coachella Valley. The CVRWMG’s IRWM Region is located in central Riverside County, within the Colorado River Funding Area, as defined by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The IRWM Region Boundary is chiefly the same boundary as the Coachella Valley Groundwater Basin. More information on the CVRWMG and IRWM Plan can be found at www.cvrwmg.org.

Coachella Valley Integrated Regional Water Management Plans

The CVRWMG previously prepared and adopted the 2010 and 2014 Coachella Valley IRWM Plans can be found at the CVRWMG Library.

2018 Coachella Valley Integrated Regional Water Management and Stormwater Resource Plan

The CVRWMG collaboratively prepared the 2018 Coachella Valley Integrated Regional Water Management and Stormwater Resource Plan (2018 Coachella Valley IRWM/SWR Plan) to encourage the implementation of multi-benefit projects that will improve water quality, reduce local flooding, and increase water supplies. The 2018 Coachella Valley IRWM/SWR Plan was adopted in 2019 and DWR’s review found that it was consistent with the 2016 IRWM Program Guidelines. The 2018 Coachella Valley IRWM/SWR Plan was submitted to the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) for review on June 9, 2020, and is awaiting concurrence by the SWRCB. The 2018 Coachella Valley IRWM/SWR Plan can be accessed below and at the CVRWMG Library.
