Desert Hot Springs, CA –
The staff at Mission Springs Water District's Horton Wastewater Treatment Plant (HWTP) is outstanding, and
Grade II Operator Chris Jacobson has proven the point. Chris has won the highly regarded 2007 Operator of
the Year Award, presented by CORBS (Colorado River Basin Section), the local section of the California Water
Environment Association (CWEA), at their annual banquet held at the Fantasy Springs Casino Event Center on
Feb. 2nd.
The HWTP staff are regulars at these banquets, as the plant has received numerous awards over
the years, including Plant of the Year in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1996, 2004 and 2006; Collections
Systems of the Year in 1992 and 2006; the State Safety Award in 1992; and numerous Operator of
the Year and Collection Systems Person of the Year awards.
Wayne Robertson, Chief Plant Operator and 20-year employee, has been with MSWD throughout all
its wins. With staff members like Wayne Robertson, who won Supervisor of the Year in 2006, Chris
Jacobson, 2007 Operator of the Year, and Lee Boyer, who won Operator of the Year in 2001 and 2004, it's
no wonder MSWD's impressive awards collection keeps growing.
