PSUSD Presents Mission Springs Water District With Shiny Apple Award
Desert Hot Springs, CA – Mission Springs Water District has received its second Shiny Apple Award, presented by the Palm Springs Unified School District at their May 2007 Board of Directors meeting.
The PSUSD Board of Directors presented the award on behalf of the staff, educators and students of the schools of Desert Hot Springs, in appreciation of the Water District’s donation of knowledge, time and funds to their classrooms. MSWD promotes water conservation education in local classrooms via participation in school events, science fairs, Groundwater Guardian Campus Team activities, and in collaborating with local area groups dedicated to promoting natural science education, such as the Natural Science Collaborative of the Desert Region (NSCDR), the CA Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC) and Caliso Learning.
The Shiny Apple Award honored MSWD particularly for sponsoring a field trip to the Mission Creek Preserve for fifth grade students at Corsini Elementary School, for participating annually in the Groundwater Guardian Drinking Water Festival at Desert Springs Middle School, and for the recent Water Awareness Poster Contest that MSWD hosted for all 4th through 6th grade classrooms in Desert Hot Springs. The Award cited MSWD’s contributions as “positive examples of community support and demonstration of the strong interest they have in the education of children.”
Mission Springs Water District is honored to receive the Shiny Apple Award from the Palm Springs Unified School District. Educating students - and the public - about caring for and about our precious groundwater is a key component of MSWD’s mission to provide, protect and preserve our most valuable resource – water.
