Mission Springs Water District Begins Work on $8 Million Sewer Project

Desert Hot Springs, CA – Mission Springs Water District will begin construction of sewers for Assessment District 12 (AD12), Area L, Phases 1 and 2 in the Dos Palmas area starting on November 5, 2007.

AD12 was passed by the District’s voters in 2004, with a 10 year completion goal. Work on AD12 is occurring in phases as grant money to fund the work is secured. Funding for Area L, Phases I & II was obtained by 2006 and Engineering and Design for the area was completed in 2007. At completion of the construction in Area L the District will have sewered 1200 parcels and abated 750 septic tanks at an estimated cost of $8 million.

AD12 Area L is bounded by Dillon Rd. to the south, Palm Drive to the west, Avenida Manzana to the east and Camino Campanero to the North, and construction will occur within those boundaries in two Phases. A construction schedule, maps and other related project information will be posted on the District’s Web site at www.mswd.org in the Neighborhood News section on the Construction News and Project News pages.

Construction for Phases I and II will begin on November 5, 2007 and is expected to be completed by June 2008, followed by septic abatements beginning May 2008. Septic abatement for all of Area L is expected to take about 6 months to complete once it has begun.

AD12 is but one component of the District’s Groundwater Quality Protection Project and follows on the heels of the completion of AD11. In AD11, MSWD sewered 1233 parcels and abated 996 septic tanks over the course of 6 years from 2000, when AD11 was passed by voters, to 2006, when work in AD11 was completed. Another component of the Groundwater Quality Protection Project is the Dos Palmas Water Line Replacement Project, which provides protection for our groundwater by replacing old, undersized and deteriorating water lines with new ductile iron pipe in an area responsible for 25% of the District’s system leaks.
