Randy, an ex-Marine, is Broker and Owner of a local financial planning and brokerage firm and an active member of the Desert Hot Springs community. Randy was a Planning Commisioner from 2004 until taking office with MSWD in 2005, and is a two-term past president of the Noon Rotary Club. He is currently an Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce and a past Director for the Boys and Girls Club. Randy has been a resident of Desert Hot Springs since 1988. He and his wife, Diane, have two children.
John Furbee, Vice President, Board of Directors
Appointed May 2006 to complete the term of retired board member Mac Villines, which expires in
December 2007. Chairs Finance Committee. Member Engineering Committee.
Furbee, a 37-year resident of Desert Hot Springs, owned and operated the DHS Drug Store until 1977. John
continues to serve Desert Hot Springs in community and civic volunteer positions. He has been president of the
board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club and the Mission Springs Foundation, as well as chairman of the DHS
Planning Commission and DHS Economic Development Committee. Further, he is a member of Rotary and a participant
of the Water Issues Study Group. In recognition of his many accomplishments and contributions to the community, he
was named the 2006 Senior Inspiration Award recipient for Desert Hot Springs.
John Brown, Board of Directors
Board member since December 2007. Current term expires in December 2011.
John Brown has been an Executive Director for a variety of non-profit organizations over the last 25 years. He has a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and a Special Education Teaching Credential along with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy. His interest in Special Education began when he worked as an Orderly at Angel View Crippled Children’s Foundation in the early 70’s. After completing his education he served as the Executive Director of a private special education school. He also headed an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment agency for 13 years. Most recently John was the Executive Director of Desert AIDS Project for 5 years. He is presently heading Family Services of the Desert which provides Mental Health Services to families throughout the Coachella Valley.
John is the proud single father of four adopted sons who are now grown with families of their own making John the proud grandfather of 12. He was named outstanding single father of the year in 2002 by the National Association of Single People. He was the founding board president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation which is the largest provider of HIV services in the world. Currently he is on the Board of Cabot’s Museum Foundation and is the immediate past president. He is also the President of the Board for Food Now.
Mary M. Gibson, Board of Directors
Board member since November 1985. Current term expires in December 2007. Chairs
Human Relations Committee. Member Executive Committee.
Mary is on the Executive Committee of the Association of California Water
Agencies/ Joint Powers Insurance Authority. Her association with MSWD began in 1964, as secretary/treasurer
to the Board for four years. Mary was Desert Hot Springs’ Senior Inspiration Award winner in 2004. She
was the first woman president of the Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Board and the Chamber’s Citizen
of the Year in 2001. During her 20 years with the Riverside County National Date Festival, she was board vice
president and president. Mary was on the Palm Springs Unified School District Board of Trustees for five years
with positions as clerk and vice president. Mary, a retired businesswoman, lives in Desert Hot Springs.
Nancy S. Wright, Board of Directors
Board member since November 1988. Current term expires in December 2009. Chairs Engineering Committee. Member Public Affairs Committee.
Nancy is a founding member of the Desert Hot Springs Groundwater Guardian Team, and from 1996 to 2003 was a member of The Groundwater Foundation’s Groundwater Guardian Council. In 2003 she was elected to The Groundwater Foundation’s Board of Directors. From 2000 - 2007 Nancy ws appointed by two governors to the Colorado River Basin Regional Water Quality Control Board and served as Chair for 4 years. She has been a member of the Desert Hot Springs Women's Club since 1987 and served two terms as President. Nancy is also a Board member of the Mission Springs Foundation and has been active in community service since 1985. Nancy and Pete, her husband, own a local construction company. They live in Painted Hills.
