You are invited to participate in an exciting program sponsored by MSWD – the Water Issues Study Group, also known as WISG.
MSWD believes that an informed community is a supporting community. While our citizens are already well-versed on local water issues,
they often welcome the opportunity
to learn more about global,
national and regional issues that will impact
the community and its groundwater resources.
WISG class members attend open forum discussion groups that meet monthly for four months and include guest speakers on the following topics:
WISG is pronounced “whiskey” in concert with the saying attributed to Mark Twain, “Whiskey’s for drinking; water’s for fighting.”
Classes are two hours long, with breaks and time for networking. Here’s what the 2005 series of WISG classes entailed:
Monday, June 13, 2005 – The 2005 WISG sessions begin with a Conservation Conversation.
Monday, July 11, 2005 – Hydrogeology, or "Hey, There's Water Under Me!" featuring guest speaker Dr. Joseph Birman, Ph.D., hydrogeologist extraordinaire.
Monday, August 1, 2005 – “Who Wants To Be A Water Wizard?” game, featuring guest expert Jim Markman leading gameplay centered on water rights law. All participants win great prizes!
Monday, August 29, 2005 – “What’s In Your Water?” discussion on water quality with guest speaker Lorena Ospina.
Monday, September 19, 2005 – Graduation!
The classes are free—no tests, no homework. Just plenty of information overload and refreshments. Please let us know you are interested in joining the next WISG series by signing up on the Contact Us page, or by calling 760.329.5169 ext. 121.
